A friend of mine has traveled with a well-known and established preacher for many years. This minister has written at least 30 books, and I’m certain this is a conservative estimate.
He’s also had his books translated into many languages, including Spanish.
I took the opportunity to hear him speak once when he was down here in Lima, Peru at a church I’ve got a lot of friends connected to.
I noticed in the weeks after he was here, that I was running into many of these Peruvian friends who were carrying around a copy of one of this man’s more well-known books and reading through it, marking it up and so on.
One occasion not long after that, I was talking to that same friend about his mentor and travel partner, especially on books and publishing. This was long before I had published anything of my own on Kindle.
My friend told me “you can speak somewhere once, and people may remember your points later, but with a book, you can pull it off the shelf and access information you may have forgotten or your brain didn’t remember. It’s for that reason [my mentor] writes books. They can go places you can’t go to or travel to.”
That was one of the things that lit a fire in me to write books and not just blog posts.
I had to overcome a mindset I still struggled with that said “other people write books. who am I? I should just stick to blogging where people can read my stuff for free. Nobody will read my books if I write them, I don’t have the platform, etc…”
You may have things burning inside of you to share with the world, or a story to tell nobody else can, and through the medium of self-publishing, you can see to it that it can go places you can’t.
What are you waiting for?
If you have a book in you or a finished manuscript and don’t know what next steps to take, message me and let’s talk.
