Wiping Prophetic Egg Off My Face

I wrote a post about 15 months ago, and admit I now need to wipe the egg off my face. I will attempt to do the very thing I’ve challenged prophets to do numerous times the past — admit I got it wrong and deal with it.

I could scrub that post from the internet, pretend it doesn’t exist (which I’ve seen a lot of people do when their major prophetic words don’t pan out) and move on like nothing happened. But I’d be hypocritical and doing the very thing I’ve griped about in the past. And that post has had thousands of hits, and in the days since Donald Trump won the election and will be the next president of the United States, I’ve been getting renewed traffic to this site via that article, so I have to deal with this head on.

I won’t pretend I never posted it. I prefer admitting when and where I’ve changed my mind and address things that can easily be found in my archives.

So here we go:

It looks like I got that one wrong!

Here’s Johnson’s original prophecy:

“I was in a time of prayer several weeks ago when God began to speak to me concerning the destiny of Donald Trump in America. The Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, “Trump shall become My trumpet to the American people, for he possesses qualities that are even hard to find in My people these days. Trump does not fear man nor will he allow deception and lies to go unnoticed. I am going to use him to expose darkness and perversion in America like never before, but you must understand that he is like a bull in a china closet. Many will want to throw him away because he will disturb their sense of peace and tranquility, but you must listen through the bantering to discover the truth that I will speak through him. I will use the wealth that I have given him to expose and launch investigations searching for the truth. Just as I raised up Cyrus to fulfill My purposes and plans, so have I raised up Trump to fulfill my purposes and plans prior to the 2016 election. You must listen to the trumpet very closely for he will sound the alarm and many will be blessed because of his compassion and mercy. Though many see the outward pride and arrogance, I have given him the tender heart of a father that wants to lend a helping hand to the poor and the needy, to the foreigner and the stranger.”

It appears as though Jeremiah Johnson, who remained humble in the days after having given his prophecy in the first place, is continuing to remain humble in recent weeks and months from what I’ve seen.

Some of my concerns revolved around how absolutely certain some in the prophetic movement were in the 2012 and 2008 elections who prophesied things with such certainty that never came to pass and people seemed to be comfortable moving on like this wasn’t a big deal. And now more prophetic words were coming out besides just Johnson’s about Trump that concerned me because I felt like we’ve been down this road before.

Anybody who knows me, has followed my blog for years or listened to my podcast over the years knows I’m hardly a stick in the mud when it comes to spiritual gifts, nor am I in the other extreme end of the spectrum. But it’s not without legitimate reasons I’ve raised concerns before.

I won’t repeat many of the comments I made in the original post which you can read if you want and see how I explained why I was cautious and hesitant to put much stock in the prophecy.

Within days he addressed the backlash he was receiving on his Facebook page, and at the time, I appreciated his attitude and his humility. I have even more respect for him now, not just because of how things panned out, but after hearing the interview on Dr Brown’s radio show I linked to above, I find myself quite fond of him, and a little embarrassed at some of my words in my original article, even though I didn’t outright attack him or anything like that.

Personal Thoughts In a Nutshell

Now keep in mind, I personally didn’t prophesy. Nor did I release any prophetic words one way or another about this matter that needed to be seen whether they’d come to pass or not. I responded and reacted to someone who did. I responded with my understanding of 1 Corinthians 14:29 which talks of judging prophetic words as we hear them, not just waiting for time to pass and then determine if they were from God or not. If two or three are allowed to give a word in a meeting, and the rest present judge and test them, then that shows there’s room for the possibility false words can be given and ignored. The reverse is also possible — a true prophetic word can be given, and those listening to it and weighing it can be wrong in their rejecting of it. I would probably land in the latter category over this matter.

I turned out to be mistaken in whether the word was accurate or not, but I don’t feel that makes me a “false prophet” since I wasn’t prophesying anything or leading anybody away from God with prophetic utterances of my own.

At any rate, thank you for your patience and grace with me in this matter. I still believe there’s more “wait and see” to do with Trump to see what kind of president he will be — keep in mind Johnson never prophesied whether Trump would win the presidency or not, by the way.

In August 2015, one could look at the Republican primaries with their natural eyes and think it’s a ridiculous idea to believe Donald Trump would even win the nomination for his party, let alone actually become president. Many of us thought the same thing might happen as did in 2012 with his candidacy. For that reason, it bears repeating again like a cliche that God’s not limited by our circumstances. It started to look earlier this year that the “trumpet” prophecy was credible after all, but I decided to wait until the election results this fall before writing any kind of follow up or addressing my post from August 2015. This post is it.

Jeremiah Johnson obeyed the Lord, and humbly and publicly shared his prophetic word, no matter what circumstances would dictate or what the rest of the Church would think — which as he shared with Dr Brown, most of the negative feedback he got was from other believers. I also think there’s some credibility to Dr Michael Brown’s article about how Donald Trump is only the president by actual divine intervention, since there’s no logical explanation that a human being can truly come up with for how this happened.

And it’s here where I’ll stop and not share any further thoughts because I want this post to be short and primarily address my original article and admit I got it wrong, offer my sincere apologies to Jeremiah Johnson (if he reads this or anybody brings it to his attention), and not go on about all the other nuances   there are to the prophecy and events that have since transpired. It might make for a better podcast or discussion elsewhere to look at those things.
