I don’t want to catch you off guard giving any of my pontifications about last night’s US election results. I admit I watched CNN’s live election coverage online with a bowl of popcorn and in a bit of suspense, kinda already knowing who I thought was going to win. But I still couldn’t go to sleep until 1am hoping to get definite closure about it before going to sleep.
The American economy affects the Canadian economy, and things down here in Peru are affected more than some of my American friends realize. We care just as much as you do who runs your country, even if we’re simply spectators.
If you’re like me, these last few weeks and months have been tense. I’ve posted mostly humorous or thought-provoking things on social media about both main candidates. Being a Canadian who doesn’t vote, I knew my opinion only matters to a small degree so I try keeping out. But knowing that over 75-80% of my “audience” are Americans, I also felt the urgency to use my platform to some wise degree.
I am only writing you this quick email to remind you, whether you’re utterly devastated at the results of last night and dread a Trump presidency, or whether you were fasting and praying and interceding that just such a thing would happen and now you feel vindicated, I have the same thing to say.
God is still on the throne.

I’m willing to bet you already know this, but it bears reminding ourselves. No matter who is running our countries, God is ultimately the one who establishes kings and kingdoms. I’ve spent a lot of time in the Old Testament lately, and reminding myself of the steadfast faithfulness of God while putting people like Daniel under absolutely wicked kings who slaughtered millions.
God had a remnant of faithful in the first century who spread the Kingdom of God like wildfire despite being under REAL persecution under emperors like Nero. Somehow, the Church came out just fine, spread, and increased over the centuries since.
Anyway, I don’t want to be condescending or make you feel this Canadian has nothing significant to encourage you with. But we’re going to be fine. Especially if we keep our eyes on him and not thew newspapers or circumstances around us. I’m not talking about living with our head in the sand, but about where we remember to keep our focus.
